Prez Sez Fall 2021 Brooke Itter ASPA President I’m very honored to be serving as ASPA’s new president. I’ve been with ASPA for a number of years as secretary and then president-elect. Now we’re embarking on a two-year term that I hope will be informative and enjoyable for all. This letter finds most just completing their first quarter of being back to in-person schools for the 2021/22 school year, but instead of going back to “normal,” we’re going through many new challenges and experiences. With strong community and resources, we’ll only continue to grow stronger through these times. We are very excited to be coordinating with WSASP again this year for the fall conference. Since we’re such a small association, ASPA wouldn’t be able to offer both an in-person and virtual conference to best meet the needs of all our members. However, by being with WSASP, both options are available for 2021. The WSASP 2021 Fall Conference is from October 21 through the 23rd. Current ASPA members can attend at the same rate as WSASP members. If you’re participating virtually, registration ends Monday, October 19. Please be sure to update your annual membership with ASPA, via our website, before registering. Once you renew your membership and register for the conference, you can enter to win a personal digital download of CPR, Copy Paste Report program, by uploading copies of both receipts using this Google form. In addition, we would like all members to update your membership contact information on another online form. I want to thank Ashley Doss for all of her hard work and commitment getting ASPA’s new website, which will be up and running very soon! She also started ASPA’s official Facebook page, which can be used to communicate about ASPA events, but also as a place for ASPA members to connect. Starting with this Fall 2021 Prez Sez, we will no longer be having a separate newsletter, but instead the information will be disseminated via our new website and Facebook page. National School Psychology Week is 11/8 - 11/12 and the theme from NASP this year is “Let’s Get in GEAR (Grow, Engage, Advocate, & Rise).” NASP has resources and suggested activities to match the theme. As ASPA members, let's use this week as an opportunity to educate others about the unique roles of many Alaskan school psychologists around the state. Perhaps post something on our new ASPA Facebook page. Finally, I would like to say to all of our members, “WE NEED YOU!” Please consider becoming active in one of the many committee positions currently available. If you would like to join the fun, please contact me. Public relations chairperson Public relations regional reps Web Newsletter Editor Event/Social Planner Legislative chair
